City to Install New Ordorant Injection Pump in Gary/New Duluth
The City of Duluth Public Works staff will be installing a new ordorant injection pump and holding tank in the Gary/New Duluth area beginning Wednesday, July 10th. Natural gas is an odorless gas, in order to enable the general public to detect a gas leak the City must inject an odorant called mercaptan to make the gas detectible by smell. In order to do this we will need to remove the old injection pump and tank. The old tank contains approximately 200 gallons of odorant that we will be transferred to the new tank. During this transfer there is the potential for the odorant to get into the atmosphere causing a strong smell of natural gas. This odor is not hazardous. The project is expected to take one week to complete.
