Public Meeting on Park Point
Small Area Plan Scheduled for October 30
[Duluth, MN] - The City of Duluth invites the public to attend the Park Point Small Area Plan Public Open House meeting on Wednesday, October 30, 2013, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at the Lafayette Community Recreation Center located at 3026 Minnesota Avenue.
At this meeting, City Planners and Plan Committee members will be on hand to discuss the City staff and Plan Committee’s work to date and share options for recommendations to be included in the Park Point Small Area Plan. The public is also encouraged to review and comment on the various options included in the Plan.
The Park Point Small Area Plan builds on the goals, policies, and implementation strategies in the City’s 2006 Comprehensive Land Use Plan and serves to augment that Plan by providing more analysis and detailed recommendations. The Park Point Plan study area includes the entire 583.5 acres of Park Point from the Aerial Lift Bridge to the Superior Harbor entry. Recent residential development activity on Park Point, as well as potential commercial development in addition to long standing issues of public access to beaches, transportation patternsand infrastructure (water and sewer) capacity concerns, have raised a number of questions regarding changes to existing and future land use and the character of the Park Point neighborhood. Therefore, it is necessary for the City to study the area in greater detail to develop and implement a long term plan that will maintain but also enhance the neighborhood character for residents and visitors to Park Point.
The planning process began in the January of 2013 and is expected to conclude later this year with a report to the Planning Commission. To learn more about the Park Point Small Area Plan, including Plan Committee meeting summaries and other plan documents go to http://www.duluthmn.gov/planning/sap/park-point.cfm The public can also submit comments on the website.
Questions can be directed to John Judd in the City’s Planning Division, (218) 730-5301.
