Patrick Plys Hall of Fame Portrait to be Unveiled in Duluth City Hall November 20
[Duluth, MN] - Mayor Don Ness will join family and friends of Duluth Hall of Fame Honoree Patrick Plys in a ceremony tomorrow, Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at 2:00 pm in the rotunda on the first floor of Duluth City Hall, to unveil the Patrick Plys Hall of Fame portrait. Plys, a long-time community leader who was involved with several charitable causes, lost his 17-year battle with cancer in January 2012. Patrick’s wife, Laura, will be on hand to help unveil the portrait.
“It was a heartfelt moment to see Patrick deservingly inducted into the Duluth Hall of Fame. We were so pleased that the community was able to honor his service and countless contributions prior to his passing,” said Mayor Ness. “His portrait will hang in City Hall to honor his legacy and celebrate his life of giving back to others.”
In an effort to carry on Patrick’s legacy and community support, his wife Laura started “Project Joy” a series of events raising money for the BackPack Feeding Program which feeds children in-need on weekends throughout NE Minnesota and NW Wisconsin.
“Each time I am filling backpacks for Project Joy I am reminded of Patrick and his love for service and community,” said Patrick’s wife, Laura Plys. “It makes me happy to know that we can help area children by offering them this food every weekend and know that we are in some way carrying on Patrick’s legacy and memory through this effort brings me joy.”
The 2nd Annual Project Joy Event will take place this Friday, November 22, 2013 from 7 p.m.-10 p.m. at the Duluth Curling Club. Tickets are available in advance at northernlakesfoodbank.org or at the door.
