City crews responding to water main breaks

[Duluth, MN] – The City of Duluth Public Works and Utility crews are responding to three water main breaks located on Rice’s Point, a residential area in the Woodland neighborhood and in the Harbor Highlands neighborhood along Central Entrance. Breaks are typically caused by changing temperatures that shift pipes underground.

The Public Works and Utility crews discovered the breaks over night and have been working to isolate the locations. A 12 inch water main break on Rice’s Point Water will result in water being turned off at 11:00 am impacting businesses in that area. It is not clear whether some businesses will be operation during the water shutoff.

The other two additional breaks also require that water be turned off. One is an 8 inch water main in the Woodland neighborhood near Faribault Street and the second is a leaking 8 inch valve in the Harbor Highlands neighborhood. Crews will be working throughout the day today and hope to finish repairs by late evening, pending no complications.

The City thanks the public for their patience as crews work to make these three repairs in difficult weather conditions.

Media with questions can contact Howard Jacobson, Manager of Utility Operations at (218) 730-4061.
