Shoveling Fire Hydrants-
With the large amount of snowfall recently The Duluth Fire Department is reminding residents to keep fire hydrants clear of snow (3-5 feet around each hydrant) and a path to the fire hydrant to ensure Fire Department access if needed. Shoveling hydrants out now can save valuable time and protect lives and property if an incident were to occur.
There are more than 3018 fire hydrants in Duluth. It can take City firefighters several days after a snow fall to shovel all the hydrants. In addition to shoveling the hydrants, the crews must respond to increased volume of emergency calls. We appreciate the efforts many homeowners have made already by shoveling their hydrant. Please take a moment and shovel or snow blow the fire hydrant in your neighborhood. The home that may be saved may be your own.
