City Seeks Public Input on Coffee Creek Restoration Plan

[Duluth, MN] - The June 2012 flood devastated and washed out several streams and culverts. One area still in recovery is Coffee Creek near Enger Park. The City of Duluth has developed a stabilization plan to strengthen the stream bank and create a healthy habitat for fish. The City of Duluth will remove a partially washed out culvert and restore approximately 1,100 feet of stream channel to a natural state through an old pond bed formed by a dam that was also blown out in the same flood event.

Prior to the implementation of this plan, the City of Duluth is requesting public comments during a 30-day public review period running from February 3 to March 5, 2014, on an Environmental Assessment Worksheet (EAW) that was prepared for the Coffee Creek Bank Stabilization in Enger Park.

A copy of the EAW is available online at www.duluthmn.gov/planning/current-planning/eaw/  Additional copies of the EAW are available for public review at:

• Duluth Public Library, 520 West Superior Street, Duluth
• Duluth Planning Office, 411 West First Street, Room 208, Duluth

The EAW will be published in the February 3, 2014 Environmental Quality Board Monitor. Written comments must be submitted no later than 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 to the attention of Charles Froseth, Land Use Supervisor, 411 West First Street, Room 208, Duluth, MN 55802. The Planning Commission will review the comments at their March 11, 2014, regular Planning Commission meeting.

Electronic comments may be emailed to cfroseth@duluthmn.gov with “Coffee Creek Bank Stabilization” in the subject line. If submitting comments electronically, include name and postal mailing address.
