Public Meeting to Discuss Restriping of College Street near Campuses

[Duluth, MN] - The City of Duluth Planning Division invites the public to a meeting to discuss the proposed restriping of College Street, between Junction Avenue and Kenwood Avenue. Over the last several years, many plans and studies have identified the need to increase alternative transportation (walking and biking) in the area, and have targeted College Street as a location for bike lanes as an important connection between the College of St. Scholastica and the University of Minnesota Duluth campuses.

A special public meeting to discuss the proposed project is scheduled for Wednesday, June 11, at 5:00 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Duluth, 835 W College St.

This segment of College Street currently contains four driving lanes (two lanes of traffic in each direction) but no accommodations for bike lanes. The proposal would look at restriping the street to accommodate 2 driving lanes and two bike lanes in each direction, with parking added on the north side.

The public is encouraged to attend the meeting and provide input. Following public input, a final proposal will be presented to the City Council in early summer. If approved, restriping could occur in late summer/early fall of this year.
