Public Meeting to Discuss the St. Louis River Corridor
[Duluth, MN] – The City of Duluth invites the public to a meeting to discuss next steps for the St. Louis River Corridor tomorrow, Thursday, June 12, at 6:00 p.m. at the Spirit Mountain Ski Chalet on Grand Avenue (8551 Grand Avenue).
This meeting follows an initial public meeting held in January, as well as a key stakeholder's meeting also held earlier this year. In addition, Mayor Ness has presented the proposed vision at numerous community meetings and events including at the West Duluth Business Club and the recent Duluth Chamber of Commerce FORVM. The goal of tomorrow’s meeting is to discuss next steps towards making the corridor an outdoor recreation and environmental education hub for the region and to gather additional community input and suggestions.
The city sought and received State legislative approval to re-establish the ½ of 1 percent tourism tax in order to help fund the proposed vision which could include: environmental cleanup, improved access to the river, trail improvements, upgrades to neighborhood parks and community centers, and improvements to existing amenities including the Lake Superior Zoo, Spirit Mountain, Indian Point Campground and Wade Stadium. The City is now engaging the public, including local community clubs, area businesses, and other key stakeholders, in order to help define and prioritize possible projects and formulate action steps to move the vision forward.
Mayor Ness and other city officials will be on hand tomorrow to discuss the process and facilitate the on-going community conversation. Residents can also submit input and suggestions on the City’s website at: http://www.duluthmn.gov/river-corridor
