Drunk Driver hits two Duluth Police Squads sending officers to hospital.

Police squads were sent Lake Superior Treatment Center, 14 East Central Entrance for a burglar alarm at 2:15 AM this morning. Two squad cars had just arrived at the alarm and were parked, but occupied, when they were struck by the black 2001 Jeep Cherokee. The vehicle, driven by Christopher George Meyer, age 33 of Duluth, was traveling west on East Palm Street when it struck the rear of the first squad car. Meyer then continued west and struck the front drivers side fender of the second squad.   Meyer attempted to flee the scene of the crash, but because of the icy roadway he ended up getting stuck against a snow bank. Meyer was then taken into custody incident and processed for driving while impaired. Both officers went to St. Luke’s Hospital to be checked out as they reported they were sore from the crash.

Meyer was lodged at the St. Louis County Jail pending formal charges for Gross Misdemeanor Criminal Vehicular Operation resulting in Injury and Fourth Degree Driving while Impaired. Meyer was not injured in the crash.

The two officers, one 35 years old with 5 ½ years on the department, the other 29 years old with two years on the department, were both treated and released from the hospital. They are reported to be sore from the impact but expected to return to work tonight.
