DULUTH LEGACY ENDOWMENT FUND SUPPORTS CITIZEN INITIATIVES
 
[Duluth, MN] - The Duluth Legacy Endowment Fund announces nine grants totaling $18,500, to support citizen-led initiatives to enhance Duluths community neighborhoods:
 
$2,500 to support the Duluth Police Activities Leagues Spring Basketball League at Myers-Wilkins Elementary School for 160 boys and girls, ages 6 to 17: a partnership with Youth of Duluth to foster positive character and youth leadership.
 
$2,500 to enhance the kitchen facilities at the Washington Community Center, which serves the Neighborhood Youth Program and other members of the Central Hillside community.
 
$2,500 to establish a dedicated Teen Library Space at the Duluth Public Library, to expand the library's programs and resources for the use of teenage youth in Duluth.
 
$2,500 to support the Gary New Duluth Community Center and Recreation Area Initiative's design, engineering and permitting costs of the project.
 
$2,500 to the Healthy Duluth Area Coalition for the installation of two urban way finding projects to encourage more pedestrian use of Downtown Duluth.
 
$2,500 to the Lake Superior Botanical Gardens to design and install manicured flower gardens and rain gardens with native plants on the slopes of Kingsbury Creek within Lake Superior Zoo.
 
$2,000 to upgrade Hartley Nature Center's ski equipment for use in the Center's Environmental Education Program, which serves close to 14,000 students annually.
 
$1,000 to support the City of Duluth' s over 1,000 committed Clean and Green volunteers city wide efforts to pick up and remove litter and trash from the City's parks, trails and other public areas.
 
$500 to support the North Country Trail Association Hiking Celebration to be held in Duluth from August 21 to August 23, 2014.
 
The Duluth Legacy Endowment Fund is an endowment whose volunteer Advisory Board raises funds and awards grants to public, citizenled projects which enhance the community of Duluth.
