31st ANNUAL NATIONAL NIGHT OUT

[Duluth, MN] - On Tuesday, August 5th, 2014 neighborhoods throughout Duluth are being invited to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the 31st Annual National Night Out Crime and Drug Prevention event. National Night Out is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch and co-sponsored locally by the Duluth Police Department.

NNO 2013 involved 37.8 million people in 16,242 communities from all 50 states, U.S. Territories, Canadian cities, and military bases worldwide. National Night Out 2014 is expected to be the largest ever.

National Night Out, a yearlong community building campaign, is designed to: (1) Heighten crime prevention awareness, (2) generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs, (3) strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships, and (4) send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

Neighborhoods throughout Duluth will be hosting a variety of events such as block parties, cookouts, and visits from police officers, youth activities and anti-crime rallies. This is a night for America to stand together to promote awareness, safety and neighborhood unity. National Night Out showcases the vital importance of police-community partnerships and citizen involvement in our fight to build a safer nation.

The Duluth Police Department would like to recognize and thank the many citizens of Duluth who volunteer their time and continue to be our partners in the fight against crime. A large amount of crimes and particularly vehicle prowls, damage to property, thefts and burglaries have resulted in arrests and successful prosecutions because of neighbors looking out for each other and calling police to report suspicious activity. We invite neighborhoods throughout Duluth to give “Crime and Drugs a going away party”. A listing of local events can be found at: http://www.duluthmn.gov/police/ or http://www.duluthmn.gov/

If you would like to host a National Night Out Event in Duluth, REGISTRATION IS STILL OPEN. The final deadline for registration is Friday, August 1st, 2014 at 1pm. To register contact Pam Kleinschmidt at 218-722-7178 or pkleinschmidt@duluthmn.gov
