NATURE OF INCIDENT: Cloquet Female Formally Charged for 1st & 2nd Degree Burglary
CASE NO.: 14169864
INCIDENT DATE: 8/4/2014
INCIDENT TIME: 12:06 AM
INCIDENT LOCATION: 400 block of North 15th Avenue East
On Monday, August 4th, 2014 at 12:06 AM Duluth Police were called to a burglary in progress at a residence in the 400 block of North 15th Avenue East.
The resident saw two suspects described as a Native American male who was on a bike and a white female, coming in and out of her porch. Both had flashlights and were next seen going into another porch in the 1400 block of East 5th Street. Just prior to officers arriving in the area the suspects had left that porch and now both were on bikes headed south into a wooded area near a creek.
Officers arrived and located the female suspect who was identified as Sommer Danyell Thompson, a 29 year old female resident of Cloquet. The male suspect was not located. Thompson had stolen items from both addresses mentioned above.
Sommer Thompson has the following convictions in Minnesota:
2013 – Felony Theft
2012 – Misdemeanor Theft (2 separate charges) & Shoplifting
2011 – Misdemeanor Theft
2010 – Felony Theft, Receiving Stolen Property, Tamper with a Motor Vehicle & Misdemeanor Theft
2009 – Felony Receiving Stolen Property and 4 separate charges for Misdemeanor Theft
2008 – Receiving Stolen Property, Fleeing Police, False Name to Police, 4 Misdemeanor Thefts
2007 – Misdemeanor Theft and Hit & Run
Sommer Thompson was transported to the Saint Louis County Jail and has been formally charged with 1st Degree Burglary and 2nd Degree Burglary. If anyone has information about this case they are asked to contact the Duluth Police Department Property Crimes Unit at 218-730-5160.
The Duluth Police Department would like to remind citizens that both of these cases involved suspects entering unlocked front porches and stealing items inside. Residents are encouraged to lock their porch doors. Of further note, this was another example of a resident that took note of what was happening not only at her house, but continued watching the suspects and gave valuable information to 911 which led to one of the suspects being arrested for both the burglary of her house and that of her neighbors.
