NATURE OF INCIDENT: Structure Fire @ 2132 W 2nd
CASE NO.:
INCIDENT DATE: 8/13/2014
INCIDENT TIME: 1538
INCIDENT LOCATION: 2132 W 2nd St

At 1401 this afternoon, the Duluth Fire Department was dispatched to a man who had received an electrical shock on top of the building at 2132 W. 2nd St. The man had been helping with some construction work when a piece of steel flashing he was carrying came in contact with a live overhead wire. The man was conscious and alert, though he suffered burns to his hands. He was transported to a local hospital. At 1538, smoke was seen in an upstairs apartment. The fire department responded back to the scene and found that the electrical shock had continued through the metal roof flashing and ignited the combustible structure below. The fire was contained to a small section of the roof, and damages are initially estimated at $20,000. No other injuries were reported, and the apartment is habitable.
