SuperiorMan Triathlon
On Sunday August 24th the SuperiorMan Triathlon will be held in the Harbor & Bayfront Areas and on London Road., resulting in some road closures.
The event starts at 06:30 am when participants are dropped in the Harbor to swim to a transition area behind the DECC on Harbor Drive. Boating traffic in the Harbor will be limited at this time.
Between 7-7:30am participants transition to bicycles and travel through the Bayfront area, taking Michigan Street, Superior Street, London Road and the Highway 61 Expressway to Two Harbors where they turn around taking the Scenic Highway and the same route back to the DECC. During the bike portion of this event the following roads will be closed:
-Railroad Street -from 5th Ave W to Garfield Ave
-Railroad Street- westbound lane only, from Harbor Drive to 5th Ave W.
-Superior Street-from 3rd Ave E to 8th Ave E
-Superior Street-from 8th Ave E to 10th Ave E will be open to WESTBOUND TRAFFIC only.
-The parking lot next to VaBene Café will remain OPEN and is accessible from westbound Superior Street at 8th Avenue East
-Access to the Fitger's Ramp will be closed until about noon, however exit will remain open.
-Michigan Street-from 5th Ave W to 4th Ave E
-London Road from 10th Ave E to 12th Ave E
-21st Avenue East-from London Road down to Water Street (southbound lane closed only)
-The 21st Ave East I-35 Ramps will be closed, however 26th Avenue East ramps will remain open.
- I-35 Ramps on 5th Ave West will be affected. The Northbound Off-Ramp and Southbound On- Ramp will remain open.
There will be a coned lane for bicyclists only on:
-the East side of 5th Ave West
- Harbor drive up to Railroad street
- the lower side of London Road from 12th Ave E to15th Ave E,
-the lower side of London Road from 20th Ave E to 21st Ave E,
-the lower side of London Road from 26th Ave E to the Highway 61 Expressway.
When bike participants return to the DECC they will transition from the bike portion of the race to running.
-Runners will travel up Harbor drive and around the Irvin taking the Lakewalk down and back up behind the Canal Park Lodge where they follow Lake Place Drive and enter back onto Railroad Street toward Garfield Avenue. For the 1st running lap only, runners will proceed to a turnaround post near Garfield Avenue and return on Railroad street.
-After the 1st lap, runners will not travel further west than Bayfront Park. They will turn left into the Bayfront Park gravel lot, run behind the stage and continue onto the last lap on Harbor Drive.
The last lap will take them into Bayfront Park where they will finish near the Park Arches.
During the running portion of this event the following roads WILL BE CLOSED:
-Harbor drive behind the DECC, from 5th Ave W BELOW the Aquarium lot, to just below the East DECC Lot Entrance (East DECC Lot Entrance and 5th Ave W Connector to Railroad St remain open).
-Upper West bound lane of Railroad Street from Lakeplace Drive to 5th Ave W (East bound remains open)
-Lower Eastbound lane of Railroad Street from 5th Ave W to Garfield Ave (Westbound remains open)
DECC access is down Lake Avenue or 5th Ave W to Railroad Street.
Park Point is accessible down Lake Avenue.
Roads should be open to normal traffic by approximately 3pm.
Drivers in the area of this event should be observant of No Parking signs, Detours, heavy pedestrian traffic, and Police Officers directing traffic.
