 Environmental Assessment Worksheet on Slip 2 in Duluth Harbor Available for Public Comment

 
[Duluth, MN] - The City of Duluth is accepting public comments during a 30-day public review period from September 1 to October 1, 2014 on an Environmental Assessment Worksheet (EAW) that was prepared for Slip 2 (located in the Duluth harbor and borders the former Lafarge Cement Plant) capping and shallowing project.
 
The proposed project involves capping legacy contaminants with clean dredged material and the subsequent shallowing of Slip 2 from its current average depth of 20 feet to a new depth range of 5 to 10 feet. This action will provide a protective cap of clean dredged material over contaminated sediments, while also providing stability to the remaining dock walls associated with the Pier B site and the City of Duluth Bayfront Park.

The EAW will be published in the September 1, 2014 EQB Monitor.  Written comments must be submitted no later than 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 1, to the attention of Charles Froseth, Land Use Supervisor, 411 West First Street, Room 208, Duluth MN  55802. 
 
The Planning Commission will take optional public comments at their September 9, 2014, Planning Commission meeting.
