Youth to harvest seeds as part of Public Seed Lending Library Program
[Duluth, MN] - On Wednesday, September 17, 2014, at 4:00 PM, youth from the Boys and Girls Club of the Northland will harvest and save seeds from the beans they planted as seedlings earlier this spring at the circle gardens lining Michigan Street at the Main Duluth Public Library (520 W Superior Street). City of Duluth Public Library and Parks Maintenance staff will be on hand to lead the youth in the process of seed saving. The planting of six of the circles as edible gardens was a joint project of the Parks and Recreation division and the Public Library, celebrating the inaugural season of the Public Seed Lending Library program and Park’s goal to have more edible landscapes on public land.
“We are excited to have the Boys and Girls Club harvesting the vegetables they planted this spring”, says Cheryl Skafte, Volunteer Coordinator, City of Duluth. “The gardens truly are a great example of partnership among City departments - Parks and the Library have enjoyed being able to support each other in achieving a common goal.”
