New Art Installation at Spirit Mountain Grand Ave Chalet
New Installation Features Local Artist Adam Swanson

[Duluth, MN] – The Duluth Public Arts Commission (DPAC) will officially present its newest art installation, recently created by local artist Adam Swanson, during a reception at the Spirit Mountain Grand Ave Chalet, 8551 Grand Ave, on December 2, 2014 from 4-8:00 PM. The public is invited.

The Public Arts Commission issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) in the spring of 2014. Adam Swanson’s proposal was selected from among an extremely talented group of regional artists’ submissions.

"Adam Swanson was selected after a long and thoughtful process by the Duluth Public Arts Commission. Adam’s work truly illustrates the love and appreciation that we all have for our beautiful city and its natural surroundings. We are very pleased and excited to share this work with the public," says Mary Mathews, President of the Public Arts Commission.

The mural at Spirit Mountain Grand Ave Chalet, titled "Your Dreams and Memories", is about connecting people with nature and depicts the deep connection that human beings have with nature which in turn gives our lives meaning and guidance. The panels also illustrate the passage of seasons through stories relating to the recreational activities, animals and people of Northern Minnesota.

“I am honored to have been chosen by the Public Arts Commission. This project has been a dream for me. The subject matter, size and beautiful space worked together to make the process and product something I am thrilled about. I hope the public enjoys it too!” said Adam Swanson.

The Public Arts Commission advocates for, promotes and participates in the selection and interpretation of public artwork and public arts events in Duluth. It also assists the city in the development and maintenance of an ongoing Municipal Arts Plan. The new panels in the Grand Ave Chalet are funded with the “1% for the arts” allocation.
