Vial of Life

The Duluth Police Department and Fire Department is proud to introduce a new program to the citizens of Duluth and surrounding area called the Vial of Life.  This FREE program is a nationally recognized program that was created to assist first responders such and Police, Fire and EMS give life-saving medical treatment to patients in an emergency situation.

The Vial of Life is a one page document that is completed by the participant that includes their full name, medical history, current medications taken, primary doctor’s name and emergency contact information. This one page form is then placed in the zip top plastic bag provided which has a red and white Vial of Life sticker on the front and then placed on the front door of the participant’s refrigerator.  Another Vial of Life sticker is included in the bag which the participant places on front door of their residence.

The sticker on the front door indicates to first responders who come to the residence that life-saving medical information is available on the front of the refrigerator in case of a medical emergency where the patient is unable to communicate with first responders.  With this information readably available to first responders, they can start what may be life saving measures quicker than if the information was not available.
