INCIDENT TIME: 2:14 a.m.
INCIDENT LOCATION: 400 Helberg Drive
On November 29th, 2014 at 2:14 a.m. Duluth Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to the 400 block of Helberg Drive after receiving a 911 call from Matthew John Amerson, 25, of Duluth. Officers arrive at the scene and observe a mostly submerged vehicle in the slip behind Comfort Systems. Firefighters from Duluth Fire Department made immediate entry into the icy water, and retrieved a lone male occupant from the vehicle at 2:25 a.m. Amerson, who was the driver of the vehicle, was transported to a local hospital by Gold Cross Ambulance. Amerson sustained no major injuries from this incident and has since been released from the hospital.
Police at the scene suspected Amerson was impaired at the time of this incident and obtained a blood test from him. Results from the test indicated Amerson had a blood alcohol concentration of .17. Amerson was issued a citation for 4th Degree DWI.
