Public Meeting on February 3 to Discuss Bikeways in Downtown Duluth
[Duluth, MN] - The City of Duluth and the Duluth-Superior Metropolitan Interstate Council (MIC) have scheduled a public meeting on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 starting at 5:00 pm with a presentation scheduled for 5:30 PM to discuss bikeways in downtown Duluth. The meeting will be an open house format and will take place in Room 303 on the third floor of Duluth City Hall, 411 West First Street. The public is encouraged to participate.
New bike accommodations, such as the recently completed 3 mile Cross City Trail in Lincoln Park, newly painted bike lanes on London Road, and planned bike lanes on 4th Street, have built momentum for increased use of bikes as another transportation option. At this point, more input is needed to determine the best route for bikeways to connect commuters and visitors into and through downtown Duluth.
The Duluth Bikeways Plan, adopted in 2013 by the Duluth City Council, identified Superior Street, 2nd Street, and 3rd Street as designated on-road bikeways, with bike lanes. At this upcoming meeting, attendees will be part of a discussion to review the existing bike routes and discuss other options. City Planning and MIC staff will provide information on existing trails and bikeways and alternatives to connect these trails through downtown.
