NATURE OF INCIDENT: Traffic Accident

INCIDENT DATE: 4/14/2015
INCIDENT TIME: 5:05 a.m.
INCIDENT LOCATION: 500 block of West Superior Street

On 04/15/2015 at 5:05 a.m. Duluth Police and Fire responded to a DTA bus crash in the 500 Block of West Superior Street involving a fatality.  Duluth Police Crash Investigators along with the State Patrol Commercial Vehicle Inspectors are investigating this incident.  The bus struck a semaphore at 5th Avenue West and Superior Street and then proceeded to hit another DTA bus before coming to a stop at the concrete barriers located in front of the construction site.  We are saddened to report that one person was killed during this crash and our prayers go out to the family.   There were a total of 17 people on the two buses which includes the drivers.   Nine people were treated at local hospital facilities.  This is an ongoing investigation and no other information will be released at this time.  We will update you with the name of the deceased once notifications have been made.
