Duluth Receives $515,000 for Stream Restoration

[Duluth, MN] - The City of Duluth is pleased to announce that the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has approved a $515,000 grant to the City for additional stream restoration related to the June 2012 flood.

The grant project consists of eight sites and includes stream bank stabilization and natural methods to enhance stream stability and resiliency. The majority of the sites are located on Chester Creek between 8th and 4th streets.

“The City of Duluth is grateful for the support from the Department of Natural Resources for their assistance in Duluth’s ongoing flood recovery efforts. This grant is critical to help us restore and protect our precious natural resources, says Chris Kleist, Utility Operations Coordinator for the City. The work is scheduled to take place this summer.

Catch basins lead directly to our streams and Lake Superior, not to the wastewater treatment plant. Please do not dump anything into them. Contact the City of Duluth at 730-4130 during business hours or 730-4100 on evenings and weekends to report any illegal discharge or dumping.
