NATURE OF INCIDENT: Mothers Day Walk/Run
CASE NO.:
INCIDENT DATE: 5/9/2015
INCIDENT TIME: 8:00 a.m. Start
INCIDENT LOCATION: Harbor Drive and Railroad Street
On Saturday, May 9th, 2015 at 7:30 a.m., Duluth Police will begin detouring traffic off of Railroad Street and Harbor Drive for the Y.W.C.A. Mother's Day Walk/Run Event. The event will include a 5K race and a 2 mile walk.
The first race is the 5K that begins at 08:00 a.m. and should be done by 9:00. The second is a 2 mile walk course and begins at 09:30.
During each event vehicles can enter onto Railroad Street at Garfield Avenue. However, they will not be allowed past each race turn around points, which will be about 1/2 block before Garfield Avenue for the 5K race and near the pedestrian crossing bridge (near Georgia Pacific) for the 2 mile walk. There will be no thru traffic allowed on Railroad Street between Garfield Avenue and 5th Avenue West until both events are finished.
Both run/walk events will begin on Harbor Drive near the William Irvin Ship. Participants will run west behind the DECC and onto the sidewalk leading into Bay Front Park. They will continue through the Bay Front gravel parking lot to Railroad Street and turn west to a turnaround point, and back the same route to Bay Front Park taking the path behind the stage to finish on Harbor Drive.
The DECC entrance on Railroad Street and the Harbor Drive entrance/exit (near the William Irvin Ship) will remain open during the event. No traffic will be allowed on Harbor Drive below the east DECC Lot Gate. 5th Avenue West will remain open down to the connector to Railroad Street. 5th Avenue West access to the Aquarium lot will be closed at 7:30 a.m., but will reopen at 10:00 a.m.
Roads should return to normal traffic flow at approximately 11:30 a.m.
