Public Invited to Meeting on Addition of Bike Lanes to Pecan Ave
[Duluth, MN] - The City of Duluth Planning Division invites the public to a meeting to discuss the proposed restriping of Pecan Avenue (which stretches from East Central Entrance to Rice Lake Road) for bike lanes. Pecan Avenue currently contains four driving lanes (two lanes of traffic in each direction), which exceeds the level of automobile traffic that utilizes this route. Over the last several years, many plans and studies have identified the need to increase alternative transportation, such as walking and biking, throughout the City. With the planned resurfacing of this road, the timing is ideal to incorporate modes of transportation that reflects diverse mobility. The proposal would include two driving lanes (one in each direction), two bike lanes (one in each direction), and a middle turn lane. Adding bike lanes to Pecan Avenue can be done with minimal cost and disruption and can help encourage residents to use alternative modes of transportation.
The public meeting to discuss the proposed project with interested citizens is scheduled for Wednesday, May 20, at 6:00 p.m. in Room 303, third floor of Duluth City Hall (411 West First Street). Please note: entry into City Hall is currently unavailable from West First Street.
The meeting is open to the public where input will be gathered and compiled. Following public input, staff will present a final proposal to the City Council. If approved, restriping could occur mid to late summer.
