Cars, Cops, Kids – and Books! -- at Miller Hill Mall this Thursday
The Duluth Library Foundation, partnering with JohnsonCarpetOne, the Miller Hill Mall, the Duluth Children’s Museum, and Michael’s craft store, are thrilled to announce that children and their caregivers are invited to join Officer Nick Lepak of the Duluth Police Department and other volunteers to 1. check out a squad car in person, 2. read books about cars, trucks, and trains, and 3. play with toy cars, trucks, and trains at Miller Hill Mall on Thursday, June 18, from 4:00pm until 6:00pm at Center Court.
Keeping with the theme of police officers, coffee and doughnuts will be provided. Each child is also invited to take home a free book.
“We are grateful to the Duluth Police Department for sharing one of their officers and one of their squad cars to encourage children to read,” said Dan D’Allaird, president of the Duluth Library Foundation. “For kids, the opportunity to see a squad car up close is pretty tantalizing.”
“Cars, Trucks & Trains!” is the seventh of eight free children’s literacy programs being offered at the Miller Hill Mall between May 9 and June 27, known as Drop and Give Me 20 Minutes of Reading Each Day! Children who read at least 20 minutes a day dramatically improve their chances of success at school and in life.
This event is free and open to the public.
The Duluth Library Foundation was established in 1990. Its mission is to enhance the work of the Duluth Public Library by direct financial support that offers literacy and lifelong learning opportunities to the community. This is its 25th anniversary year.
