NATURE OF INCIDENT: Alcohol Compliance Business Checks
CASE NO.:
INCIDENT DATE: 7/16/2009
INCIDENT TIME:
INCIDENT LOCATION: City of Duluth

The Duluth Police Department, with the cooperation of several 19 and 20 year old volunteers, conducted alcohol compliance checks on Duluth businesses. The series of checks took place over the past three months.  Compliance checks began on May 4, 2009, and concluded on July 16, 2009.

The checks ensure businesses are properly asking for proof of age through the identification process before providing alcohol  to patrons. The under age volunteers purchased alcohol from 13 of 94 establishments tested in Duluth.

Duluth Businesses improved to 86% with their compliance compared to last year's 80% rate.

The following businesses failed the compliance check and were cited for a violation of city ordinance 8-28 ( Sales to minors prohibited):

Gopher Bar, Shotz Bar, Horseshoe Billiards, Grizzly's Grill and Saloon, Spirit Bottle Shop, Sportsmen's Liquor, Gary Liquors, Big Bottle Shop, George's Liquor, Ridgeview Country Club, Red Lobster, Hacienda Del Sol and FonDuluth Casino.
