 Public Meeting to Discuss Improvements for Kenwood Ave and Arrowhead Road Intersection

 
[Duluth, MN] – The City of Duluth Planning division invites the public to an upcoming meeting to discuss potential improvements to the intersection of Kenwood Avenue and Arrowhead Road in the Kenwood neighborhood. The City of Duluth has conducted traffic studies of this integral juncture, reviewed design options and has developed a proposal to reduce congestion and improve safety for all users.
 
A special public meeting to discuss the proposed improvements is scheduled for Thursday, July 23, at 5:30 p.m. at Kenwood Lutheran Church, 2720 Myers Street.
 
Among the improvements being considered are: upgraded pedestrian crosswalks with “zebra” striping, improving and/or eliminating the “free right” geometry at eastbound Arrowhead Road, signal timing modifications, reducing vehicle access points that cause safety concerns, adding a left turn lane at northbound Kenwood Avenue, and consider the possibility of a future stoplight at Cleveland Street.
 
Improvements to this intersection are critical as traffic has increased in the area over time and there is a new 85 unit market rate apartment complex being proposed. At the meeting, City Planning and Engineering staff will give a brief presentation on the list of proposed improvements, discuss timing and funding, and invite public input. The improvements would be phased over several years, starting in 2015, dependent on funding.
