NATURE OF INCIDENT: Structure Fire @ 329 N 4th Ave W
CASE NO.: 15-006966

INCIDENT TIME: 18:59
INCIDENT LOCATION: 329 N 4th Ave W
At 18:59 pm on Tuesday July 21st, 2015, the Duluth Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 329 N 4th Ave. W.
Smoke was seen coming from the eaves of a two-story four unit apartment building. Firefighters entered the building and knocked down the fire as it was reaching the attic space. Overhaul continued for 3 hours due to the amount of hidden spaces withing the ceiling framework. All of the occupants within the units had evacuated prior to our arrival. One cat was found alive and removed from the apt. There were no civilian injuries and one minor burn to a firefighter. The firefighter was checked out by one of the local hospitals and returned to duty shortly thereafter.
The Red Cross assisted with the placement of 8 tenants as some of the apartments are uninhabitable.
20 firefighters responded from U.M.D , Lincoln Park, and the Downtown Fire Stations.
Damage is estimated to be around $65,000.00
The cause of the fire has been determined to be a kitchen grease fire.
Any further information will be provided by the Duluth Fire Marshal's Office.
