The Duluth Police Department along with our partners PAVSA (Program for Aid to Victims of Sexual Assault) and the St. Louis County Attorney’s Office are pleased to announce that we are the recipients of a $1,011,096 Sexual Assault Kit Initiative (SAKI) grant from the Bureau of Justice Assistance. These grants are designed to help multidisciplinary teams establish best practice victim centered protocols for sexual assault investigations. Our multidisciplinary team was one of only 20 grants awarded in the country. This grant will provide an additional Sex Crimes Investigator for the Duluth Police Department, an advocate and SAKI site coordinator for PAVSA, and clerical support and attorney time for the St. Louis County Attorney’s Office. This grant will insure that the Duluth Police Department, PAVSA, and the St. Louis County Attorney’s Office continue to be leaders in sexual assault investigation, advocacy, and prosecution. As a group we are excited to help victim survivors of sexual assault bring justice to their perpetrators.
