City of Duluth to Improve Kenwood/Arrowhead Intersection Beginning in 2017

[DULUTH, MN] The recent development at the Kenwood/Arrowhead intersection highlighted ongoing traffic issues in the area. A traffic study was conducted to determine how best to improve the intersection with the predicted heightened use of the area once the project is complete. Based on the study and public comments collected at a July 23rd, 2015 meeting, a plan has been created to make the following improvements to the area:

  • Street improvements
  • Traffic signal improvements
  • ADA accessibility
  • Improve crosswalk visibility
  • Access management

The proposed plan is designed to improve traffic flow and enhance pedestrian and traffic safety.

The project design will be completed in 2016 with a project start date of 2017. The project is estimated to cost a total of $1,000,000. Funding will come from the following sources:

  • $200,000 from the developer
  • The remaining amount will be built into the City of Duluth Engineering budget
