INCIDENT LOCATION: 1200 North block of 8th Avenue East
On Wednesday, December 16th, 2015 at 1:05 a.m. Duluth Police responded to the area of 1200 North Block 8th Avenue East on a report of suspicious activity in the area. The person who reported the suspicious activity advised 911 that there were footprints in the snow by vehicles clearly checking door handles. Another person called 911 to report seeing two males with backpacks checking doors in the area. Officers arrived at the scene and observed two males, one of the males hid and the other fled on foot. A 15 year old juvenile male who was hiding was taken into custody without incident. Officers were able to establish a perimeter and K9 Officer Johnson and his partner were able to track the other 17 year old juvenile male who was hiding inside a vehicle. The juvenile males were in possession of stolen items from vehicles that were taken and placed in evidence by officers. This incident is under investigation and charges are pending. The 17 year old male was taken to Arrowhead Juvenile Center for several counts of motor vehicle tampering, fleeing on foot, and 5th degree possession of a controlled substance.
Officers were able to identify over 110 vehicles that were entered during this incident. Duluth Police would like to commend the two individuals who were observant and called 911 to report the suspicious activity as well as the officers who located and arrested the suspects.
