BY: Public Information Officer Russ Bradley
NATURE OF INCIDENT: Damage to DTA Multimodal Center
CASE NO.: 16011570
INCIDENT DATE: 1/16/2016
INCIDENT TIME: 2154
INCIDENT LOCATION: 228 W. Michigan St
On January 16, 2016, at 9:54 PM, Duluth Police responded to parking ramp adjacent to the new Duluth Transit Authority Transit Center at 228 West Michigan Street, on a report of vehicle break-ins. When officers arrived, the reporting parties also stated that they saw a male entering the DTA Transit Center construction site. Officers checked the construction site and found that significant damage had been done to the property including broken fixtures and flooding from broken pipes. Inside the site, officers encountered Wesley Andrew Kleveter, 18 years of age, of Duluth. Kleveter is not an employee of the DTA or the construction company, and had no lawful purpose to be on the premises. He had property in his possession, including two firearms, that was determined to be stolen from nearby vehicles. Investigation further determined that Kleveter caused the damage, preliminarily estimated at $63,500, to the DTA Transit Center construction site.
Kleveter has previously been adjudicated delinquent for Burglary in the First Degree and Possession of a Dangerous Weapon on School Property making it unlawful for him to possess a firearm. On January 21, 2016, Wesley Kleveter was charged in Saint Louis County District Court with three felonies stemming from this incident: Burglary in the 3rd Degree, Criminal Damage to Property in the First Degree, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
