Rehabilitation work on Aerial Lift Bridge to begin February 1

[Duluth, MN] - The City of Duluth is informing the public about the planned replacement of the wire ropes which serve to raise and lower the Duluth Aerial Lift Bridge. The project is scheduled to start on Monday, February 1st, 2016 and will continue through the end of the month.

The City of Duluth has contracted with Lakehead Constructors to perform the work Mondays through Saturdays from 7 AM to 5:30 PM.To facilitate the work, the Lift Bridge will be restricted to one-lane, two-way vehicular traffic during the project period. Traffic signals will be placed at each end of the Lift Bridge to keep traffic flowing through the single lane. The lane closure will shift between each side of the Bridge and appropriate traffic control signs and barricades will be in place to alert drivers. Periodic short term (15 minute or less) traffic closures will also occur when materials need to be lifted over the roadway or loaded in and out of the work area.

The City thanks the public and requests that motorists build in additional travel time to reach their destination.

For additional information, contact Aerial Lift Bridge Supervisor Dave Campbell at (218) 730-3387, or LHB Project Manager Joe Litman at (218) 279-2455.
