Rehabilitation work on Aerial Lift Bridge commences

Traffic reduced to one signal controlled lane for entire month of February

[Duluth, MN] - The City of Duluth is reminding the public about the project currently underway to replace the wire ropes that raise and lower the Duluth Aerial Lift Bridge. The project started today, February 1st, 2016 and will continue through the end of the month.

The City of Duluth has contracted with Lakehead Constructors to perform the work and will have workers on site Mondays through Saturdays from 7 AM to 5:30 PM.To facilitate the work, the Lift Bridge is restricted to one-lane with signal controls directing vehicular traffic going in and out of Park Point during the entire month of the project. Traffic signals have been placed at each end of the Lift Bridge to keep traffic flowing through the single lane. The lane closure will shift between each side of the Bridge and appropriate traffic control signs and barricades will be in place to alert drivers. Periodic short term (15 minute or less) traffic closures will also occur when materials need to be lifted over the roadway or loaded in and out of the work area.

The City thanks the public and requests that motorists build in additional travel time to reach their destination.

For additional information, contact Aerial Lift Bridge Supervisor Dave Campbell at (218) 730-3387, or LHB Project Manager Joe Litman at (218) 279-2455.
