Duluth Police Department recently equipped patrol with Narcan Kits to combat Opioid Overdoses. The department received 100 Narcan (Naloxone) Kits for patrol officers. The kits were obtained thanks to a grant submitted by the Arrowhead EMS Association. ALL DPD patrol crews have now been trained regarding: what are opioids; how to recognize an opioid overdose situation and how to effectively use the Narcan kits.
On Monday, May23rd, 2016 at 7:44 p.m. Duluth Police responded on a report of a 24 year old female who overdosed on heroin at a business in the area of 100 block of East Central Entrance. Officer Webster arrived at the scene and was with the unresponsive female who had overdosed. He administered Narcan nasal spray. The female became responsive and was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.
The use of these kits has proven to be very successful throughout the country, including here. Thanks to the officer’s quick actions and medical team response, a 24 year old female’s life was saved.
