NATURE OF INCIDENT: ATV accident with injuries
CASE NO.: 2016-00005192
INCIDENT DATE: 5/29/2016
INCIDENT TIME: 10:12PM
INCIDENT LOCATION: Trail system above te Zoo

Sunday evening at 10:12 pm the Fire Department was dispatched to the trail system above the Lake Superior Zoo with a report of two individuals injured in an ATV accident.

The exact location of the injured was not very clear initially. Fire crews from 8 Station in Spirit Valley, 2 Station in Lincoln Park, and Headquarters Fire Station responded. A fire department ATV responded to the area of 77th ave W and Coleman St and started to search the trails towards the freeway. Other crews responded to the intersection of hwy 2 and I-35.

With the GPS technology fire crews, with the assistance of 911 Dispatch, were able to get a GPS location that was approximately one quarter of a mile south east of the hwy 2 on ramp to the freeway.

The operation involved 15 firefighters with assorted rescue gear to remove the patients from a creek bed ravine that the ATV had rolled into. It took approximately an hour and a half to get them out to the waiting Gold Cross Ambulances. The patients, one male and one female, were not able to walk and had non-life threatening upper and lower body injures.

Both patients were transported to St Luke’s Hospital for treatment and there condition is unknown at the time of this release.
