At 12:54 hours today, the Duluth Fire Department responded to report of a possible chemical leak at a hotel at 408 Canal Park Drive. Upon arrival, crews determined that a private pool contractor had accidentally mixed hydrochloric acid and sodium hydrochloride while servicing the hotel pool. Crews immediately evacuated the building and secured the scene. One employee was treated for possible exposure and was transported to a local hospital by private vehicle.

The mixture was contained and neutralized by fire department crews. The entire building was ventilated and monitored by the fire department before turning building control back over to the hotel management at approximately 15:20 hours. No additional injuries were reported.
