Duluth Storm Response Update for July 24

[Duluth, MN] - The City of Duluth is reminding residents with storm damage of the following activities taking place the week of July 25, 2016.

Curbside pick up
- A contractor will start Monday, July 25 in the Woodland neighborhood to pick up storm debris street by street. The estimated timeframe for this work is unknown due to the extensive damage in that area. Residents in Woodland are asked to lay out storm related tree debris in the front yard by the curb or on the boulevards. Please try not to block the sidewalk or street. No other yard waste, household items or garbage is allowed.

Drop off site
on Rice Lake Road in Duluth, across from Boulder Ridge Apartments: This self-service site will continue to accept storm related tree debris through the week of July 25 during the hours of 8 AM to 6 PM. City staff will be on site. No other yard waste, household items or garbage is allowed.

Please do not burn tree debris as this is illegal without a burn permit, raises the risk of more fire hazards given the amount of debris lying around, smoke will spread to your neighbors, and problems for people with asthma or breathing difficulties.

Assessors
- St. Louis County will be sending out Assessors to individual properties to assess damage and determine if properties may qualify for tax abatement. County staff do carry ID's.

Power
- Please be cautious as there are still downed power lines in some areas and residents should assume they are energized. Please wait for MN Power crews and avoid coming into contact with power lines. Check www.mnpower.com for outage updates. As of today, July 24, MN Power reported about 11,000 customers left without power, down from 22,000 yesterday with more anticipated to be restored later today. If you have questions about when you might get power back, please call 800-228-4966.

Cooling centers: The Duluth YMCA and the Great Lakes Aquarium are still offering their facilities for folks without power to charge up cell phones or cool off. At the YMCA, showers are available.
