On July 26, 2016, 26 year old Samuel James Nelson of Proctor, MN was formally charged with two counts of Fleeing Police in a Motor Vehicle and one count of Assault in the Second Degree (Dangerous Weapon).

The charges against Nelson stem from multiple incidents over the past two weeks where Nelson fled, obstructed and assaulted Duluth Police Officers. Nelson was taken into to custody by Duluth Police and members of the Lake Superior Drug and Violent Crime Task Force on July 23, 2016. He was arrested in the 2800 block of West 2nd Street.

The details of these incidents can be found in the criminal complaint. Nelson has numerous other felony charges pending. An ongoing investigation is being conducted by the Duluth Police Department Property Crimes Unit (Auto Theft), and Lake Superior Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force.

Nelson is currently in custody at the Saint Louis County Jail in Duluth. He is being held on $100,000.00 bail.
