NATURE OF INCIDENT: Late Night Cab Prepay
CASE NO.:
INCIDENT DATE: 4/1/2010
INCIDENT TIME: 10:00 pm
INCIDENT LOCATION: Duluth
The Duluth Police Department and local taxi cab company owners have agreed to implement a prepay system for cab fares between the hours of 10:00 PM and 6:00 AM. This prepay will go into effect at 10:00 PM this Thursday, April 1, 2010.
In 2009, the Duluth Police Department responded to over 100 failure to pay cab fare calls. During a recent meeting with company owners, it was learned that an additional 2-3 failures to pay go unreported each day. Owners agreed to implement the prepay system during night hours in which customers will be required to prepay or show they can pay before the service starts.
Police and cab company owners hope the prepay system will eliminate the opportunity for crime and free up police to better serve the citizens of Duluth. The prepay program will be reviewed in October.
