General Maintenance Projects Planned for Park Point and Lakewalk Trail Week of September 12

[Duluth, MN] - Two City of Duluth general maintenance projects will take place the week of September 12 that impacts motorists traveling in the Park Point neighborhood and users along the Lakewalk Trail.

Park Point Sanitary Sewer Cleaning

Every five years, the City of Duluth conducts general cleaning of the public sanitary sewers in different neighborhoods. Park Point is scheduled for cleaning this year. During the week of September 12, two vactor trucks will be parked along the shoulder of Lake Ave over manholes and will work section by section. Two other trucks will be positioned at the Lift Station to clean the building and sewer lines. Parked vactor trucks will block some of the shoulder and a driving lane requiring motorists to carefully drive around the truck. Crews will move equipment as they finish each section of the sewer lines. City staff will help direct traffic around the trucks. There should be no disruption to utility services.

City crews will clean the entire sanitary sewer system on Park Point. The City requests motorists to slow down around the project area for the safety of staff. Residents with additional questions can call the City's Public Works and Utilities at (218) 730-4130.

Lakewalk Trail

Work crews will be helping to maintain and protect the Lakewalk Trail between Canal Park and Brighton Beach starting next week on Tuesday September 13. The first day will be used for cleaning and site preparation. Two crews will start seal coating on Wednesday, one from Brighton Beach and the other in Canal Park. The treated portions of the Trail will be closed to public use. Once the seal is applied, it will require about 2-4 hours to dry depending on weather. The City asks the public to watch for staff conducting this work and to avoid coming into contact with the treated sections. Seal coating helps maintain the durability of the trail for long term use. The Trail maintenance project will finish with the striping of a blue line on Friday.
