Kenwood Ave and Arrowhead Road Project Update for Week of
September 19, 2016 – Closure of Kenwood Ave Scheduled
[Duluth, MN] - The City of Duluth is informing the public about the construction status of the Kenwood Ave and Arrowhead Road Signal and Paving Improvement project which will improve traffic and pedestrian mobility at this intersection.
Both East and West Cleveland Streets are paved and open for traffic. New traffic signals will be added to ensure smooth traffic flow for residents and those accessing local businesses.
An upcoming closure of Kenwood Avenue at Arrowhead Road is scheduled for Wednesday morning, September 21st at 7:00 A.M. The closure of Kenwood Avenue is anticipated to last several weeks unless work is completed in a shorter period of time. This closure will allow for concrete pavement removal and repairs, sidewalk installation for the Kenwood Village Development, and the installation of the wiring and signal pole bases for the new traffic signal system.
Arrowhead Road will be tapered down to one lane in each direction as motorists approach the intersection at Kenwood Ave. Drivers will not be able to turn southbound onto Kenwood Avenue from Arrowhead Road. Motorists needing access to Howard Gnesen Road should take the earlier left turn onto Blackman Ave and connect via McFarlane Rd. There is a signed detour route for traffic headed north on Kenwood Avenue to turn right at College Street. The Duluth Transit Authority will continue to use the temporary detour bus route following Brainerd Ave and Buffalo St.
The City encourages the public to access the Kenwood Shopping Center and businesses in the area from either Arrowhead Road or the newly paved Cleveland Street. The public is reminded to watch for changeable message signs, follow detour routes and adhere to the posted speed limit of 20 MPH in the construction zone to ensure safety of work crews. Additional speed enforcement will be in the area.
