to Announce 2016 Kids Voting Initiative
Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at 2:30 PM
Harbor Highlands Community Center, 28 East Village Drive, Duluth
[Duluth, MN] - Mayor Emily Larson will be joined by ISD 709 Superintendent Bill Gronseth; Head of Marshall School, Kevin Breen; DPSA Head of Schools, Bonnie Jorgenson; the Duluth Area Family YMCA; and the League of Women Voters Duluth to announce the return of Kids Voting initiative for the 2016 election cycle. The news conference will be held on Tuesday, September 20 at 2:30 pm at Harbor Highlands Community Center (28 East Village View Drive).
After a six-year hiatus, the City of Duluth will be offering youth K-12 the opportunity to cast a Kids Voting ballot on Election Day, November 8, 2016, at various polling locations through the Duluth area.
Kids Voting aims to engage youth in the democratic process, providing a hands-on experience to practice good citizenship and empower young people in the election process. Parents are encouraged to bring kids to the "Kids Voting" polls which will be open from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Results of the Duluth Kids Voting initiative will be shared after the election.
Individuals interested in supporting the Kids Voting initiative are invited to serve as volunteers on election day at their local polling stations. Kids Voting volunteers welcome youth voters, hand out ballots, answer questions, and collect the completed ballots. Sign-up to volunteer for one or both of the shifts at bit.ly/KVDuluthVolunteer.
