Imagine Duluth Focus Groups to Meet in October

[Duluth, MN] – The Imagine Duluth 2035 Comprehensive Plan Kickoff event last week is being followed up with four focus group meetings addressing economic development, open space, housing, and transportation. The Focus Groups will be charged with thinking in depth about issues related to each topic in a city-wide context and based on existing conditions, completed studies, and new ideas for the community. The public is invited to provide their perspectives in each issue area. The City’s Community Planning Division staff will lead the Focus Groups through a series of three meetings, the first of which starts next week. Also participating in a lead role will be the City’s other departments such as Public Administration, Parks and Recreation Division and Business and Workforce Development. 

The meetings will take place in Room 303 at Duluth City Hall, beginning at 4:00 pm and run through 5:30 pm on the following dates:

October 3    Economic Development Focus Group 
October 4    Open Space Focus Group
October 11  Transportation Focus Group
October 20  Housing Focus Group

During this first set of meetings, city staff will walk participants through the comprehensive plan process to-date, review available data, and solicit input from the focus group about research questions and the direction for the process. 

The outcome of the Imagine Duluth process, for purposes of the study areas will be a new chapter of the Comprehensive Plan addressing the city’s priorities for each of the four topics through the year 2035.  The new chapters will incorporate the Guiding Principles of the Plan, including the new principles of “health” and “fairness.” 

The Imagine Duluth website will be updated this week to include information from last week’s kick-off event, such as maps and citizen comments, at www.imagineduluth.com
