Projects to limit access to portions of West Michigan Street in downtown
[Duluth, MN] – The City of Duluth Public Works and Utilities department is informing the public about two projects that will temporarily close sections of West Michigan Street in downtown Duluth starting October 10.
The City of Duluth Utility Operations is working on a natural gas project which impacts traffic flow on West Michigan Street between 1st Avenue West and Lake Avenue. The work has commenced and is restricting on street parking and will narrow driving lanes next week until approximately October 7th. Beginning October 10th utilities crossing Michigan Street in this area will be installed, effectively closing this section of the street until October 14th. During the closure, local deliveries and access to the parking ramp behind Minnesota Power will be allowed.
From October 10 until the 24th, Kraemer Construction is planning to close West Michigan Street east of 2nd Ave West to approximately the skywalk, to setup equipment to re-roof the U.S. Bank Building. Traffic will be routed up 2nd Ave W to Superior Street and back down 1st Ave West. Michigan Street will be converted to two-way traffic during this project between 1st Ave W. and the US Bank parking ramp entrance for vehicle access.
