Crane Installation to Close Section of West First Street in Downtown Duluth

[Duluth, MN] – The City of Duluth is informing the public of a planned closure of West 1st St. between 3rd Ave West and 4th Ave West to assemble a crane for the removal of equipment off the roof of the CenturyLink building. The crane assembly will start on Thursday, October 13, 2016.

Once in place, the crane will be moved to the west end of the block, into the intersection of 4th Ave West.  West 1st St. will be closed from mid-block west through the intersection of 4th Ave West. The contractor will have 4th Ave West closed from above West 1st St. south to the nearest alley. This closure will be in place Friday October 14 until Sunday October 16th.

West 1st St. will be converted to two-way to allow vehicle access into the parking ramp connected to maurice's headquarters and from 3rd Ave West to the parking garage at 315 West 1st St.

The sidewalk in front of the CenturyLink building will be closed but the sidewalk on the north side will remain open.

Assuming good weather and mild wind conditions, crews plan to disassemble the crane on October 17 and will need to shut down West First Street between 3rd and 4th Ave West again for the day.
