NATURE OF INCIDENT: Structure Fire
CASE NO.: 16-10734
INCIDENT DATE: 10/15/2016
INCIDENT TIME: 12:35
INCIDENT LOCATION: 3106 Lyman St

The Duluth Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 3106 Lyman St. Upon arrival crews found a single story house with visible flames at the rear of the home. The fire was extending into the attic of the house. The first arriving crew forcefully opened the front door and started fire attack. The main body of the fire was quickly knocked down, but the fire had extended into the attic. Firefighters laddered the house and cut a hole in the roof for ventilation. A primary search of the home resulted in no occupants being found in the home.

20 firefighters responded to the call and remained on scene for just over an hour. There was no one home at the time of the fire. A firefighter went to the hospital to have debris flushed from his eyes. The home is deemed uninhabitable at this time.

The Fire Marshal's Office investigated this fire and determined the cause to be improper disposal of cigarette butts. Damage is estimated to be $32,000.00. Any further information will be provided by the Fire Marshal's Office.
