Hartley Park Reopens to the Public Following Summer Storm Damage
[Duluth, MN] - The City of Duluth Parks and Recreation division is excited to announce the re-opening of Hartley Park. After the July 21, 2016 windstorm, City crews and community trail organizations have worked hard to restore Hartley's unique and diverse trail system. Crews have just completed clearing Hartley's cross country ski trails. The City is happy to announce that Hartley Park is once again open to all designated trail users. Volunteer clean up work continues on a few multi-use trails so visitors are encouraged for their safety to follow posted signs.
Restoration work already commenced to replace the estimated 1000 trees blown down by the wind storm thanks to a generous donation of 3500 trees from Canadian National EcoConnexions "From the Ground Up" program. The trees were planted this month along Tischer Creek, Old Hartley Road and inside the deer exclosure by Community Action Duluth's Stream Corps team, Hartley Nature Center preschoolers and community volunteers.
The City wishes to thank the many volunteers, Hartley Nature Center, CN and the Stream Corps for their partnership and contributions to restore the trails and forest in beloved Hartley Park.
