Duluth Recognized for Achievement of Excellence in Financial Reporting

[Duluth, MN] - The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting was awarded to the City of Duluth Auditor's Office by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR). The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.  

An Award of Financial Reporting Achievement is typically awarded to the individual department designated by the government as primarily responsible for preparing the awarding winning CAFR. The City of Duluth’s Auditor’s Office provided the following statement about this award and recognition.

“We take our work seriously and hold ourselves to the highest ethical standards as professionals in our field and stewards of taxpayer dollars. We are very pleased and grateful for this recognition from the GFOA. We are proud to work for the City of Duluth and its residents,” said Wayne Parson, the City’s Chief Financial Officer.    

The CAFR has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR.

The GFOA is a non-profit professional association serving approximately 17,500 government finance professionals with offices in Chicago, IL, and Washington D.C.
