Kenwood Ave/Arrowhead Traffic Improvement Project Update
November 10, 2016
[Duluth, MN] – The City of Duluth is informing the public about the next phase of construction in the Arrowhead Road and Kenwood Ave signal and paving improvement project. The goals of the improvements are to provide efficient and safe operations for both vehicles and pedestrians by reducing congestion and improving traffic flow, along with improving access to surrounding businesses.
Starting Saturday, November 12, 2016 a contractor will begin installing the new traffic signals and remove the old system. Until the new signals are operational, 4-way stop signs will be placed at the intersection of Kenwood Avenue and Arrowhead Road. The 4-way stop will be in effect until the signals are operational, and this phase of the work is expected to be completed by Sunday night as long as weather conditions are favorable and the system is fully operational.
Starting Monday, November 14, the contractor will complete the adjustments to the signal heads, install video detection, the emergency vehicle pre-emption devises, and temporary pedestrian buttons. Please use caution while the crews are working on the signal equipment.
The intersection will be open to pedestrians once the signal work this fall is complete. Next spring, the contractor will install the concrete pedestrian ramps and permanent pedestrian pedestal type buttons at the Kenwood/Arrowhead intersection. The sidewalk along Arrowhead Road and Kenwood Avenue in front of the Kenwood Village Development has been restored.
The public is reminded to drive slowly and cautiously in the work zone. The speed limit has been reduced to 20 MPH. Please watch for flaggers that will stop traffic for up to 5 minutes or more when the poles are being set. Motorists should plan for additional travel time and consider alternate routes due to anticipated delays and potential for traffic congestion.
